What is a Terrarium?
A terrarium is a container, open or closed, containing a “living” habitat, a biotope or ecosystem for plants or small animals.
This habitat may contain :
- Plants : mushrooms, lichens, orchids, cacti, etc.
- Insects or invertebrates : Isopods, beetles, spiders, scorpions, etc.
- Amphibians : salamanders, frogs, axolotls, etc.
- Reptiles : Turtles, Lizards, Snakes, etc.
Having a terrarium is a responsibility. If you don’t have the time, knowledge or means to look after one, don’t buy one.
Mon Terrarium has a wealth of comprehensive breeding information on the most popular reptiles and amphibians, and will be able to guide you in caring for your NACs (New Pet Animals).
The easiest type of terrarium to maintain is the plant terrarium.
Humidity-loving plants such as mosses, ferns and tropical plants are fairly stable in a closed terrarium.
As for a terrarium for animals, it has the same type of necessary characteristics as a terrarium for plants: Heat, humidity, lighting, substrate, material and overall environment. These factors depend on the type of animal you decide to keep in the vivarium.
